Ukraine has still not paid Russia’s Gazprom for gas, Energy Minister Alexander Novak told Interfax.

He said that as of today payment has not been made for gas. “We are continuing to discuss this problem,” Novak said.

Ukraine’s debt for Russian gas currently exceeds $3.5 billion. Gazprom said it would start an advance payment system with Ukraine in June due to accumulated debt. If Gazprom does not receive an advance by June 2, gas shipments to Ukraine will stop on the morning of June 3.

Ukraine is insisting on a lower gas price. Russia is prepared to discuss further cooperation with Ukraine in the gas sphere after Ukraine presents a debt settlement schedule for previously shipped gas, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has said previously.
